Know how to get rid of a computer Virus?

I am operating windows xp and I had the Norton and Avast antivirus installed. Now it is saying that I have Win 32 Trojan-gen in my sys�tem and I can�t seem to clean it by running my antivirus. Anyone can help?Thanking you in advance.
